Lake District, Cumbria, England

Zhangjiajie, China
Step into a magical misty wonderland that’ll make you and your partner feel like you’ve stepped into another world. Get lost together amongst the 3,100 (or more) towering quartz sandstone pillars found in Zhangjiajie national park. With columns reaching heights of up to 300 meters, you’ll soon understand why Yunanjiajie inspired some of the scenery in the Avatar movie.
This National Park has so much for you to explore! Take a gorgeous 30 minute cable car ride to Tianmen mountain, and spend the day exploring the mountain top. Explore Tianmen cave, walk the stairs to heavens door and if you’re feeling brave take the walk of faith. Then on your way down from the mountain, be sure to opt for a car ride and experience the famous 99 bends road- it’s a wild ride for sure! In other areas of the park you’ll find the World’s largest and longest glass bridge, the world’s highest and fastest elevator, or if you’re after something more relaxing – the stunning BaoFeng Lake.
If you’re looking to spark some romance by conquering your fear of heights, spending your days immersed awe-inspiring landscapes and then curling up together after a long day in a luxurious hotel, Zhangjiajie is for you.

While you’re in the Zhangjiajie region it is well worth taking a trip down the Ancient Phoenix Town, Fenghuang. This 400 year old river town is simply gorgeous! Be sure to visit one of the riverside restaurants for a dining experience with a spectacular view (plus if you’re a fan of bacon, you absolutely need to try their traditional smoked pork dish). Then really fall in love once the sun sets by taking a stroll down by the river, or better yet by taking a boat ride down the river. This will allow you to experience the magical sight of the town lit up at night.

Rovaniemi, Finland
This is definitely a couple’s trip to keep in your back pocket for this coming winter season (especially if you adore all things Christmas!) Make your next festive period one to remember by taking a trip to Rovaniemi, Finland. In this winter wonderland, you’ll be greeted by none other than Santa Clause’s very own village and his Santa Park. Lucerne, Switzerland
Doesn’t this place look like it oozes love and romance? Switzerland genuinely looks like it was carved straight out of a fairytale… and Lucerne is no different. With it’s gorgeous lakeside location and old town architecture dating back to the 15th century, Lucerne is sure to capture your heart.
Get swept up in the moment down one of the many cobblestone streets or medieval town squares and be sure to visit one of the beautiful boutique cafe’s or the local fruit and vegetable market. Or share a kiss on the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke), walk the old city walls and take a journey through time in Lucerne’s very own glacier garden. Also, while you’re there, don’t forget to go for a boat cruise on Lake Lucerne or journey to the Top of Europe (Jungfraujoch) for a picture perfect day out.
Te Anau, New Zealand
Te Anau is a wonderful little town, commonly known as the gateway to Fiordland National Park. Here, you can take a trip across the lake to see glowworms light up the darkness in the Aurora cave system. You can also get a chance to see the extremely rare Takahe at the Te Anau Bird Sanctuary. Plus, if you’re wanting to have a more extravagant adventure, a helicopter flight can take you to visit the three nearby sounds: Milford, Dusky and Doubtful sound. Additionally, if you and you’re partner are a fan of hiking, Te Anau will give you access to some New Zealand’s most renowned Great Walks like the Routeburn, Kepler and Milford tracks.
The accommodation in Te Anau does not disappoint either. You can have an incredibly unique and intimate experience by staying at Te Anau Homestead. Here you can choose from a range of quirky accommodations to spend the night in. They have accommodations such as a restored former covenant, a 100 year old homestead, a whole train carriage and a carousel glamping experience. We opted for the Fiordland carriage accommodation when we stayed there and wow, it was truly a wonderful experience!
While you’re there…
While you’re down in Te Anau, it is 100% worth taking a trip to Milford Sound. This part of Fiordland is like a small scale Norway, with landscapes just as stunning. Whether you’re driving, bussing or taking a scenic flight through to Milford sound, the views will not disappoint! And they just keep on getting better as you embark on a cruise across the Fjord and out to the Tasman sea. You’ll get to experience a panoramic landscape of towering peaks and raging waterfalls. Also, if you’re lucky, you might even spot some dolphins, seals and penguins that visit the area.
Wake up to a rainy day? No problem. The beauty of Milford Sound is that it offers stunning views no matter the weather. If you catch it on a clear day- the views are simply breathtaking. Equally though, a rainy day is not any less spectacular. The sheer cliffs create the perfect surface for rain to stream down in torrents. So, if you’re in Milford on a rainy day be prepared to see a dramatic landscape filled with hundreds of newly formed waterfalls tracking their way down into the Fjord.
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
If you’re a coffee lover, San Miguel de Allande is for you! Experience word-class coffee brews that are made from the best coffee beans that Mexico produces. For a more popular coffee shop experience, head to Lavanda Café de Especialidad y Desayuno or Ki’Bok Coffee and experience a gorgeous brew made from local beans. Or, if you’re after good cup of coffee that’s a bit more of a hidden gem, get a takeaway coffee from Cafe 20 Trece and enjoy it while you stroll around the Ignacio Ramirez Market.
Cute cafe dates are not all that San Miguel de Allande has to offer though. You can quite easily spend the day at Grutas Tolantongo absorbing the warmth of the natural hot springs carved into the side of a mountain. In addition, you can enjoy their water rivers, waterfalls, caves and tunnels, that are set amongst lush rainforest settings. Or if you’re looking to be pampered, head to Escondido Place. Here you’ll be greeted with atmospheric hot springs and the option for a couples massage to wrap up your day. In San Miguel Allande, you can also witness a stunning city sunset from El Mirador , try the local cuisine at a number of restaurants and cooking classes and experience the vibrant culture the city has to offer.

St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Caribbean
A post about romantic trips for couples is surely not complete without mentioning a Caribbean island. I mean, who doesn’t love an island romance?
When you think Caribbean, you’re probably thinking of islands like Barbados, St Lucia, British Virgin Islands, Grenada and Puerto Rico. These are all fantastic options for a couples vacation.
